It's the weekend of the inauguration, so let's look at some inaugural balls. We've already seen
Calvin Coolidge's ball in 1925. Here are a few more. I think it's typical for them to be really crowded. Dancing was probably much less important than being seen. The first two (1857 and 1861) took place in temporary structures, with wood floors and walls. The third (1865) was in a government building.
